COLOMBO, SEP 14 - Nepal have secured final berth in the 2nd SAFF Women’s Championship defeating Sri Lanka in the semi final match on Friday.
Nepal defeated Sri Lanka 3-0 in the match played at CR & FC Grounds in Colombo of Sri Lanka.
The first half of the match ended goalless as none of the teams could break the other’s defense, although, both teams had some narrow misses. However, in the second half Nepal continued the dominating form from the league matches.
Anu Lama opened the score in the 48th minute. A powerful strike by Sajana Rana rebounded off the woodwork and Lama took full advantage of the empty goal post. The lead was doubled by Dipa Adhikari in the 76th minute and Laxmi Poudel scored through a penalty in the injury time to seal the victory for Nepal.
Nepal has been in a roll throughout the tournament. Nepal crushed Pakistan 8-0 in its opening match followed by a 5-0 victory against Maldives and a smashing 7-1 victory over Afghanistan. Nepal had qualified for the semi final as the winner of Group B with 9 points from three games.
Nepal will now lock horns against India in the final on Friday. India have been equally ruthless in the tournament. India defeated Afghanistan 11-0 in the semi finals.
